Dear Town Residents,
As you may know, it has become necessary to make some changes in the Belle Police Department. Recently it was reported on the news that the police chief, Darrick Cox, was the target of a federal investigation. Up until this time, the officers of the Police Department, the town employees, the members of council, and I were unaware of this. Upon hearing of this development, Mr. Cox was placed on administrative leave and I requested an internal investigation of our police department which was conducted by the Professional Standards Unit of the West Virginia State Police. Officer Cox has been returned to his former rank of patrolman. No further action will be taken at this pending the results of the Federal investigation.
During the January 17, 2017 Council Meeting and the subsequent Council Meeting on January 23, 2017, the council voted to promote acting police chief, Robert Glenn, to permanent Police Chief as per Article 127 of the Town Ordinances. Thank you Chief Glenn for taking this position during such a difficult time.
As we move forward, I hope we all remember that our officers are there to keep our citizens safe and our ordinances enforced. This is often a thankless job. Please join me in welcoming our new Police Chief Robert Glenn and be thankful for all the men and women who work for our police department.
